The last couple of months have included lots of celebrations and get togethers, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, and everything in between. It’s been great, really it has…. but the last couple of months have been SO HARD! Recently, I wrote about my history with autoimmune thyroid disease and my excitement about trying a new medication to balance my hormones. I’m still hoping that I’m on the way to healing my body and getting things right, but it became fairly clear by the beginning of November that I wasn’t getting enough thyroid hormone.
Are you ready to take control of your life?

I’ve talked often here about better nutrition, especially using Shakeology (Shakeology review HERE). But I haven’t talked as much about exercise, even though it’s one of the best ways to improve your health and is vital for obtaining and maintaining health and wellness. I’m not the type of person that can get up the motivation to leave my house and go to an actual gym, so I’m a collector of home exercise videos. ChaLean Extreme is one of the best ones I’ve ever tried (Check out a preview of the workout here). I’m currently finishing the second month of the program (it can run 3-4 months depending on the track you elect) and the results are visible already. I know it’s all well and good to talk about getting healthy, but people don’t believe you until they can SEE proof. So to those of you that don’t know me in person or don’t see me all the time to watch my transformation, here is some actual visual proof of the work I’ve put in and the results it has afforded me.
Any of you that have spent any time at all on my blog know how I feel about Shakeology. If you’ve read my Shakeology review, you know that I chose Shakeology after comparing it to the other shakes on the market and how much it’s improved my health and wellness. It has definitely made my health better, even while living with ulcerative colitis and autoimmune thyroid disease. I’ve taken the following post from BeachBody CEO Carl Daikeler’s blog because it underscores the attitude that the company has taken in their formulation of Shakeology. It touches me that so much thought and effort went into it and I can DEFINITELY tell! If you want to know even more, I always love to talk about it. Just get at me here.
To my friends and family, it is not surprise that I have taken my new role as a BeachBody coach and ran with it, talking about it all the time and urging my friends to take control of their health and their life. But those of you that haven’t known me as long might be thinking that my advocacy of their products has only to do with the fact that I’m now representing them. The truth is, I spent a large part of my life sick and unwell. So I’m sharing this tidbit below with any of you that are interested…. just some musings of mine about better nutrition and health and wellness from March of 2008….
I’ve already written a few times here about living with ulcerative colitis, but UC was not the first autoimmune disease that I was diagnosed with. I have a long history with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, which is a form of autoimmune thyroid disease. Recently, my doctor and I changed my medication from synthetic T4 and T3 to Nature-thryoid (which is similar to Armour thyroid). I have very high hopes for what this could mean for my health and wellness. And so I continue my journey with thyroid disease treatment, one that has already been more than a decade of roller coaster hormones, although I’m thankful I have had it easier than a lot of the people with whom I’ve discussed it.
So, the last few weeks, I’ve been stressed, run down, not eating the best, not getting my workouts in, and just in general not treating myself right. I also had a rumbly belly, increasing and resistant acne on my chin, and a few canker sores, which are all things that I’ve learned signal an upcoming flare since I’ve been living with ulcerative colitis. I had a little over a week break before classes started, so I needed to find a way to get myself back on track. So I did my first Shakeology cleanse.
We all know the advantages of getting into shape. We know that getting into shape will make us feel better, look better, and be happier. It will allow us to keep up with our busy lives, our jobs, and maybe our kids and/or grandkids. We also know that getting into shape and taking care of our bodies will make us less likely to develop heart disease, diabetes, many types of cancers, high blood pressure, and a myriad of other problems. Really, it lies at the crux of our health and happiness. But for a lot of us, that’s not enough reason for us to do it. So what WILL make us do it?
So I sit here with a MILLION things I should be doing. And yes, they are all on my to-do list. But I’m tired. And stressed. And my body is falling apart. And I JUST DON’T WANNA!
In my quest to find health and wellness through better nutrition, I’ve begun to cook a lot more and use organic and/or local grown food. A few weeks ago, I planted my own herbs to use for cooking. Yesterday, I pinched back and washed my basil. Today I blended it with oil and froze it for winter use. I decided that I should do that for all of my herbs. Here’s my haul.
